What Goltin isnīt telling is that Ranka has about 50/50 fans in Random Curiousity and gets massively outvoted by Sheryl everywhere else, worldwide, but in Japan, where, again, itīs 50/50. :D

well Japan likes the Moe type of girl more than elsewhere, thus why Ranka still get 50/50 over there. The LT was resolved. I am happy to see alto die, it is about time that some main character dies in an anime.

The fact that we don't see Alto's face when his fighter comes in to distract Brera from Klan, isn't a clue that he probably wasn't even in the fighter?

God you guys are hilarious how easy you take things at face value. Kawamori trolls you hard.

Yeah, pretty much. Iīve been /facepalming a lot in the last two weeks due to Ranka shippers, but this "Alto is dead! Iīm sure because I know!" attitude is really droll, too.

I believed in that too before I watched the episode myself. Alto was in the fighter because he came to protect Klan and got in between Klan and Bresra and he also calls out to Klan. it's easy to miss if you don't pay attention closely. There was a theory that he got off the fighter before he sent it to brasra.

Well, I'm not a shipper per se (and I like Sheryl and loathe Ranka), but I would give mad props to the creative team if Alto were really dead. I mean, that would be the ultimate insult to predictability, wouldn't it?

Alto was in the fighter when his wing got hit. After that you don't see his face again, and the cockpit is made up of a glass that makes it so you can't see the pilot inside. You guys are getting trolled yet again.

The real funny thing is? You fall for it

I prefer good storytelling to "gotcha!" moments myself, but to each his own...

like I said, there is the theory that he got off the VF before he sent it. IT is possible, if he had not called to Klan when he got in between them.

Sure, but who said that they have to be mutually exclusive? In this case, for one, I don't think it would be only a simple "gotcha!" moment, but it all depends on the continuation of the theme.

Oh, who am I kidding, there's no way in hell they'll follow through with it. :heh:

He did call to Klan. But there was no visual shot of him in the cockpit. It's entirely possible that he got out in his Exo-Gear and was communicating through his suit's communicator while remotely controlling the plane (hence it was going in a straight line).

Rule of thumb in any mecha anime - be very suspicious when you don't see a main character death prefaced with a moving death speech of some sort, following by a GAR death, follows with a tribute, and ends with momento/tombstone shot. :heh:

Not in this case. There are certain kind of stories where such things make sense ( A Game of Thrones comes to mind ), but this is not the kind of story which lends itself to this style.

I have a real hard time buying into these characterizations of styles of stories, as we tend to have them, be it in regards to anime, manga, comics, movies, etc. because every so often, you get something that doesn't easily fall into any previously elaborated notion already in place. So, I'll refrain from comment.

<shrug> Suit yourself, then. I have read lots and lots of stories, and I think I have developed a good sense of how a story will unfold.

Macross Frontier has been very strong on characterization, humour and plot. It has played a lot with audience expectations, but never in a way which negated the rest of the plot, like senselessly killing off a character with an arc still going. Michaels death was all about pushing Alto forward to actually do something about his feelings. Hell, Michael himself basically said so one episode before his unfortunate demise.

Altos arc isnīt finished. Him dying at this point would negate all his character growth, negate the romance, negate the earring.

The earring itself is a very strong indicator that he isnīt dead. One of the rules of good storytelling is to never introduce an element which hasnīt some significance later on. If Sheryl gives Alto her earring, which is capable of fold-communication, and he simply is blown up with it, the big scene where she gives it to him was a useless waste of time.

Nah, just reacting to your "I have a hard time buying into..etc." line. The second sentence was not meant to be related to you.

dude, there is no way he is dead. All of mecha history stands against him being dead. A major character will not die without an appropriate GAR moment. It doesn't matter that it seems like there is no way he survived, they will come up with some logical (or illogical) reason for his survival. Plus, no shot of him as he blows up = not dead.

Wait, this poll actually is in favor of Alto x Sheryl?

I expected Ranka to be the more popular one. Granted, this is a Macross anime but I expected Ranka's cute factor to win over a lot of people. My faith in humanity has been restored![/QUOTE]

Actually, I don't know why people are afraid of telling the simple truth... the truth that Sheryl trounced almost every poll in nearly every single internet community worldwide (Chinese, Korean... etc). While Ranka had her edge during episode 12, her popularity gradually fell as the series went on. Certainly, there are the so-called Ranka-strongholds, such as RC, but when that blog held a brief poll not to long ago regarding the topic of who is a better character, Sheryl once again trounced the polls.

What does Japan think by the way?

As far as the Love Triangle goes, its definitely AruSheri without a doubt. Ranka was popular as a character, but again, that was episode 12. As the series come to a close however, Ranka is no longer on top. Not to mention the official Macross Frontier BBS is voicing strongly for a AltoxSheryl ending.

- Tak (And when Sheryl is winning @ 2ch, that is saying something)

I like ranka overall but her character that is like being everywhere seems less stable than Sheryl who seems strong and firm. But I guess the anime is just in favor of Sheryl more than Ranka.

I don't know about the moe loving, I think that's actually working against her. Doesn't change her personality, but a better character design would help.

I guess this is where you discuss shipping? Listen I just want to talk about it. I don't want a flame war. Sometimes I am sarcastic or teasing. I may make a few threats. But it's all jokes. When I leave the thread I leave my feelings in the thread. So please don't take everything so personal. I just don't agree with you all.

@Bellyacher...Lets see who laughs the HARDEST.albums/g264/ichigowife/gifs/em0108.gif
but Ranka only went to go see her once--when Alto brought her.

Exactly...albums/g264/ichigowife/gifs/heheelq7gl7.png

Alto took RANKA to see Sheryl. He went to see Ranka alone Did you ever consider the fact that he saw Ranka first? Did you think about ...

Alto visited Sheryl second and he brought Ranka in tow?

* Echo: See Ranka first...Together! Together. See Ranka first...Together! Together. See Ranka first...Together! Together. See Ranka first...Together! Together. See Ranka first...Together! Together. See Ranka first...Together! Together. See Ranka first...Together! Together. See Ranka first...Together! Together. See Ranka first...Together! Together. See Ranka first...Together! Together. *

You know...Ranka asked Alto to take her see Sheryl....:uhoh:

Um...She wanted to see Sheryl. (Do you ffw scenes or not look at the screen when Ranka is on it?):upset:

I'm not inclined to blame Ranka for things she doesn't know about,

...Really?:eyebrow:

but Sheryl was always supportive of Ranka's career above
...:uhoh:

:nono: that's Alto. Sheryl was nice to her and gave kind words that helped.
After Alto text messaged ...(*Alert! Alert!*They *Alto and Ranka* talk on the phone and message each other a lot )Ranka to say "I'm watching' Go win!"<-"-I'm watching"<---That's Alto!

That's not support that's "Kindness".
